Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
